A recent Tigard Times article discussed how a potential school bond measure could fund the new school planned in River Terrace. Read the entire article or see below for the excerpt about River Terrace:

New school planned for River Terrace area

With construction under way in River Terrace — west of Bull Mountain along Roy Rogers Road, the district is expected to see an additional 400 elementary school students over the next five to 10 years.

The district says that a new school in the area is necessary because the schools that currently serve the area — Alberta Rider, Deer Creek and Mary Woodward elementary schools — are at or nearing capacity enrollments.

“A new school is needed to serve these students and reduce overcrowding,” the district wrote in its materials for this week’s community meetings.

The district owns undeveloped property in the area, and plans to build a 625-student elementary school, which it will name after longtime principal and school board member Art Rutkin, who died in 2010 after battling cancer.
